DEF STAN 02-834 / NES834

DEF STAN 02-834, or NES834, is an aluminium bronze with a 2% silicon addition to enhance strength, corrosion resistance and impact strength compared with other grades of aluminium bronze. The silicon content also improves the machinability rating.

The latest Defence Standard for this material is DEF STAN 02-879 Annex D, a specification recognised for its controlled low magnetic permeability level of <1.005. Impact strength is maintained down to cryogenic temperatures.
