Grade 143D is a precipitation hardened martensitic stainless steel used predominantly in the aerospace industry. It offers excellent strength and hardness combined with a good general corrosion resistance (similar to that of the 300 series stainless).
It also offers excellent anti-galling properties and a good resistance to some mildly acidic conditions. However, 143D is subject to pitting corrosion in marine environments and crevice corrosion on prolonged immersion.
