Columbia Metals has made a vital contribution to the national effort to manufacture ventilators as the United Kingdom fights the Covid-19 outbreak. The company responded to an urgent request to supply a large quantity of a specific grade of brass in support of the government’s requirement for 10,000 of the devices.
On the evening of Saturday 28 March, Columbia Metals was approached by a leading manufacturer to supply brass bar for Ventilator Challenge UK, a consortium of 14 leading engineering firms working on this project. Our warehouse staff prepared the material in the Bedford warehouse on Sunday morning and delivered direct to the customer on the same day. Columbia Metals is honoured to have played a small, yet significant, role in tackling the current crisis.
To date, the United Kingdom has reported 19,522 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 1,228 deaths. As the number of cases continues to grow, the manufacture of ventilators is of critical national importance and the government has ordered 10,000 units to treat hospitalised Covid-19 patients. Production is expected to begin this week.
Columbia Metals has offered its services to the government in the event any further assistance can be provided.
